American Cancer Society-Women of Color Patient Navigation-$30,000-Education,Screening,Treatment-Creating a Patient Navigator for outreach to women of color and support for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
CRAAB-Reap the Benefits II-$29,920-Education,Treatment- Integrated, holistic program offering physical and emotional support and education to breast cancer survivors. The program plans to expand awareness to rural Adirondack counties.
Clinton County:
Community Link Mobile Health- Women’s Health Screening-$25,000- Education, Screening- Mobile education, screening for women with no-insurance and/or low income in rural New York.
Franklin County
Adirondack Medical Center- Breast Care Coordinator- $28,916- Education-Creating Breast Cancer Care Coordinator at Adirondack Medical Center to increase mammography screening rates, provide education, and referral to patients.
Montgomery County:
Saint Mary’s Hospital- Comprehensive Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Program-$10,203-Treatment, Education- Rehabilitation services for breast cancer patients, lymphedema management and soft tissue dysfunction. The program will provide local, coordinated care for our breast cancer patients with a focus on patients who might not otherwise be treated because of language or financial barriers.
Rensselaer County
Women’s Health Center at Samaritan Hospital-One Women a Day-$37,707-Education, Screening-Intensive, community based educational outreach program to focus on breast health education to African-American women in Rensselaer County. The goal is to reach one woman each day.
Schenectady
YWCA of Schenectady-Encore: Take Charge of Your Health-$25,000-Education-Outreach to African-American women and underserved women in Schenectady County through group and individual education sessions on importance of early detection/screening.
Peaceful Acres Horses, Inc.-Women’s Retreat Program-$15,000-Treatment-Offering two weekend retreats for breast cancer patients, using equine-assisted psychotherapy. The goal is to help breast cancer patients and survivors heal emotionally, physically, socially, spiritually, and psychologically.

Warren County
Casting for Recovery-Casting for Recovery Adirondack Program-$8,523-Education- Offering a fly fishing retreat in Lake George for breast cancer survivors. Participants will be empowered with new skills, new medical knowledge and support, a new peer network and new hope. Program strives to help participants feel less isolated, become advocates in their journey through breast cancer and use newly acquired skills for a healthy future.
Glens Falls Hospital-Oncology Education and Support Services-$26,620-Education-Expanding support services for survivors, including support groups, retreats and exercise classes to Hamilton and Washington Counties.
Small grants for educational projects and scientific conferences were also reviewed throughout the past year and approved for funding by the Affiliate Board. Komen Northeastern New York awarded small grants to the following programs:
CRAAB!-Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer-$1,000-Travel-To provide travel scholarships to the American Institute for Cancer Research Conference in Washington, D.C..
St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation-Clinical Breast Exam Certification-$1,000-Travel-Scholarship to attend the National Consortium of Breast Cancer Certification Course which will enable St. Peter’s to improve access to comprehensive breast health care.
Hope in the Boat-Education and Outreach-$5,000-Education-To support educational program of a unique organization for breast cancer survivors through the ancient sport of dragon boat racing.
C.R. Wood Cancer Center-San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium-$1,000-Travel-Scholarship for symposium to increase knowledge of latest research findings regarding treatment, gain insight to educate survivors, and gain knowledge of long-term survival issues.
URU, The Right to Be, Inc.-The Deadliest Disease in America- $5,000-Education-The program is a national civic engagement tour to eliminate injustices and culturally insensitive behaviors that create barriers to breast cancer care. The project inspires action among a diverse group of healthcare providers, patients, policy makers, and health care advocates.
